I have the honour to respectfully submit

the following for the favourable consideration of His Excellency the Governor. The particular grounds ini support

of my application for an increase of salary being:-

1.

Length of Service. I was appointed Assessor

of Rates on the 12th of October 1889, and have therefore

completed nearly ten and half years service, my salary being $3,600 per annum at which rate I have been paid

over ten years without any increase or promotion..

Increased Work. Since my appointment the duties of my Office have very materially increased.:

In the Valuation in force upon my arrival here

in December 1889, there were 10,414 Rateable Tenements,

including a number of Basements, having entrances from

various Lanes, which then separately assessed. At the

present time there are 12,263 Rateable Tenements not

including Basements, which have been for several years past

assessed with the houses of which they formbart; an increase

of 1849 Rateable Tenements. The exclusion of Basements as

separate Tenements does not however cause any diminution

in the amount of work to be done, but the reverse.

In addition to the valuation of the Rateable

Tenements of the Colony for Rating purposes my duties
